If you’re on the lookout for a cozy cafe that encapsulates the essence of Malaysian cuisine with a sprinkle of comfort, look no further than 啡意般茶室 (KoYi Cafe) in Sungai Jawi, Penang. Nestled at No. 818, Jln Besar, this hidden gem is a delightful find for both locals and travelers alike seeking a spot to unwind and savor delicious flavors.

Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by a charming atmosphere enhanced by air-conditioned comfort, perfect for those warm Malaysian days. The decor exudes an inviting warmth that beckons you to sit back and relax. Although a few patrons have noted the presence of flies, the overall comfort and ambience remain a highlight, making it easy to forget minor distractions.

KoYi Cafe shines brightly with its menu, showcasing an array of Ipoh-inspired dishes that are both flavorful and pocket-friendly. For instance, the Ipoh Hor Fun Set is a beautiful melding of smooth rice noodles topped with tender chicken and served with a savory broth—perfect for a family meal or a comforting solo treat (MYR 19.00). Don’t miss out on the Ipoh Bean Sprout Chicken Rice (MYR 14.60), a classic that brings together succulent chicken and crunchy bean sprouts, embodying the flavors of Malaysia.

If you're in the mood for something lighter, the cafe's Polo Bun options make for delightful snacks. Opt for the Icy Polo Bun (MYR 10.20) with its perfectly baked golden exterior and generous dollop of cold butter that oozes out with each bite—truly a rare treat in the Penang cafe scene! And for dessert, indulge in the Self Made Egg Tart (4 pieces for MYR 18.50), with its creamy filling and flaky pastry that melt in your mouth.

Of course, no meal is complete without a refreshing drink. The HOR KAR SAI (Self Mix Coffee with Milo, MYR 8.40) stands out for its rich and comforting blend, while the Iced Ipoh White Coffee (MYR 7.30) is a must-try that can awaken your senses with its bold flavor and smooth finish.

Feedback from customers reinforces the cafe’s status as a local favorite. Kevin Voon praises the unexpected quality of the food and the generous portions, particularly the iced toast with its thick slab of cold butter—something rarely found in cafes of this type. MH Chan emphasizes the affordability of the menu, declaring it a place worth revisiting for its satisfying meals, especially their fried rice.

Although some diners have mentioned that certain dishes, like the curry mee, didn’t meet their high expectations, the consensus remains clear: the friendly service, delightful food, and welcoming environment offer a truly enriching dining experience.

In summary, if you’re venturing around Sungai Jawi, make a pitstop at 啡意般茶室 (KoYi Cafe). The combination of delectable food, warm service, and a cozy setting will make your visit memorable, inviting you to come back for more. Whether it's a hearty meal, a light snack, or a comforting drink you’re craving, this cafe is poised to satisfy your taste buds!

Such a hidden gem at Sg Jawi area! Love the indoor seating with aircond, very comfortable except too many flies The food really great i’d say, out of my expectations, drink as well especially the hor ka sai. The Icy Toast comes with super thick cold butter which is very very rare in whole Penang area i’d say. Most of the cafe/shops very “kiamsiap” to put a thin and small cube of butter, some even worse replace it with margarine

Simple and nice. The food price is surprisingly affordable and good. Only 3.9 only for fried rice! I personally like the Cham or Yuan Yang ice and it tastes good. The meal is palatable and definitely will come back again. Parking is easy too

The service attitude of the staff is very good, but the price is a little bit expensive. We ate bread toast, curry mee, nasi lemak, and bread toast with kaya. I can say the bread toast and nasi lemak taste so good, but the curry mee tastes average. The chocolate beverage is really mediocre. Chocolate should be added. If the chocolate drink is thick, it tastes fantastic.

The French toast (I’m not quite sure what it is) was quite enjoyable. I would definitely recommend trying it. The Curry Mee was above average in terms of flavor. However, I found the Hokkien Mee to be just average. The restaurant’s interior design is pleasing, and both the staff and the owner are friendly. The only downside is that there are a slightly larger number of flies than expected.

The food is good but not to the extend of 5 stars where it is absolute incredible. The high score is the extra touch on the decoration, the feel of HK style and the great service by the young service crew. Hiring the right people is important, highly efficient in cleaning up to crystal clear table top. Also, what worth mentioning is how considerate they are by providing chair with back support for old folks. Kudos to them!

The food we ordered were good. In fact I was so happy to have found an air conditioned cafe which serves good kai si hor fun at reasonable price . The curry mee and hor ka sai were good too. Will return soon for more. Waze took me to BK Complex. At first I was reluctant to go in . Luckily hubby is persistent and insist to park his car to check it out. The cafe is located within this compound. The staff by the name of Yong Long was very helpful in helping us to take our order. Awesome service.

The shop really likes the name, special. Overall the location is good, not crowded, parking available during lunch hours. Service is good, very friendly staff, the explanations are also clear about the food. Talking about the food, the taste is good, just the noodles are a little bit overcooked, but still acceptable. The bad thing I need to comment on is no rice set available during dining in, weird.
